new logo

I decided to change the name to Hull Literature Festival to keep in line with the writers choice of how they see there work and not in a book form as i was going to use Hull Book Festival. Using Hull is a more identifying slant on the festival keeping in line with the majority of festivals using the Town or City in the title. Humber Mouth is recognised with locals in relation to the Humber Bridge and the river Humber "Mouth" but the idea of people typing "Humber Mouth" in a search engine to find a Hull Literature Festival has no association to what the Web site is trying to promote in its content.

Change of Name

After researching Humber Mouth and other book festivals, i realised that when you type in google "book festival hull" top of list is Humber Mouth so this got me thinking "why call it Humber Mouth?" I have also asked several people what they think Humber Mouth is about and there answers where, the Humber Bridge, River Humber and shores of the Humber. I have come to the conclusion that Humber Mouth is the wrong naming for the site and it should be simply Hull Book Festival.

All other festivals around Great Britain have there town or city in front of book festival, so if Hull City council want to be recognised in search engines and around the book festival genre then they need to change for a positive marketing outlook for usability throughout the ages...More to follow

Tag line I'm considering using is "Get Educated 2010

Reasons for this tag line is to attract a younger audiance with "education" been the key word and also the naming of the site with "book" in the title is also a key word, books and education are relevent to the younger generation and also the latter.

Colour Scheme

Using a colour scheme wheel, i used all the colours used in the Humber Mouth logo (Humber Bridge) and used a three colour scheme (Triad) and narrowed out too bright and to dark and i am still deciding from Blue, gold, grey and pastal. From the screen grabs present they all have good colour contrasts and the final colour is still to be decided. This however will not only be my decision as i will be showing them to several people to get there opinion also for the final colour scheme.

Reflection:

The site with its colour scheme has an age group of 8-16, the fonts are so vast it is hard to enjoy taking in the content, with vast colours-fonts and advertisements to twitter you do wander what the site is about. The events page should categorised with events calendar, writer profiles and directions to make it more use friendly.

Banner shows no relevance to books apart from an arty side to it.
Nothing indicating on the stage who they are or what they are about
Flash imagery is where an introduction/tag line should be present

Reflection:
Too many fonts and sizes with too much info is off putting, colour scheme is ok, Images need cropping to compensate download speed, too many links in the text. In stead of content management they big up there site with too many thank you/ compliments, a separate page should be used for this as they are all over the shop, as if you need to be reminded

Flash banner between 5-6 transitional images ranging from image/ drawing/ text
Variety of colours main colour pink
Several fonts with different colours which clash

Reflection:

The site is hit and miss, seems to be colours everywhere and the layout with the narrowest of boarders makes it look empty and still work to do.
